Biography: Gertrude Chirambo

Gertrude Chirambo was elected in 2014 as Ward Councilor in her hometown, Blantyre, Malawi. Her 5-year term ends in May 2019. She received the Black Entertainment Film Fashion and Television and Arts (BEFFTA) award in 2014, the Woman of Purpose Excellence Award in 2016, and the Malawi Achievers Special Recognition Award in 2017. Gertrude is also a graduate of the Harvard University Women and Power Executive Program, May 2016.

Prior to returning to her hometown in Malawi, Gertrude lived and worked in the United Kingdom for 12 years. She held a position in the Public Affairs Division of the Commonwealth Secretariat, an association of 54 countries previously under British rule headed by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Gertrude earned her Masters in Arts from the University of Wales, UK (2010) and holds a degree in tourism.
