Marjorie Bride, President

Marjorie Bride recently stepped down from her position as Vice President at Odysseys Unlimited, Inc. in Newton, MA, where she was responsible for working with the alumni travel programs of universities in this country.   She is now working on a part-time basis at Odysseys and pursuing a second Masters Degree in International Relations at Harvard.

She was born in Baltimore and graduated from Bryn Mawr College with a BA in Economics and the University of Pittsburgh with a MA in Urban Planning.  She worked for the Export-Import Bank in Washington, DC; and the Pennsylvania Southwest Development Association and Oliver Realty in Pittsburgh, PA. On moving to Portland, ME she started her own business as a real estate developer and broker and also started a company to offer domestic tours of Maine, New England and other U.S. regions.  She lives in Cambridge, MA with Terry, whom she married in 2014, with her children and their families nearby. Travel activities have been a significant part of Margie’s life.  She has visited many destinations, most recently in the Middle East including Iran, and in Africa. She and Terry also contribute to nonprofits in the Boston and Maine area, including Outward Bound, ROCA, the Mitchell Institute and Christ Church Cambridge.

 
 

M Terry McEnany, Vice President

Terry was born in Iowa and educated at Brown and The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He trained in General and Cardiovascular Surgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Guy's Hospital, in London, and was on the faculties of the Harvard, Brown and Ohio State University Medical Schools. He started new cardiac surgery programs for Kaiser-Permanente in San Francisco and the Mayo Clinic's Medical Center in Wisconsin.

Terry retired at age 59 (1998) and taught people skiing in the Ski and Snowboard Schools of Aspen until 2015. After marrying Margie in 2014, he moved to Cambridge and has been involved in senior education and multiple non-profits. He became involved in Malawi in 2016 and helped establish The GranCommunity in 2017.

 
 

Gertrude Chirambo, Executive Director

Gertrude Chirambo was elected in 2014 as Ward Councilor in her hometown, Blantyre, Malawi. Her 5-year term ends in May 2019. She received the Black Entertainment Film Fashion and Television and Arts (BEFFTA) award in 2014, the Woman of Purpose Excellence Award in 2016, and the Malawi Achievers Special Recognition Award in 2017. Gertrude is also a graduate of the Harvard University Women and Power Executive Program, May 2016.

Prior to returning to her hometown in Malawi, Gertrude lived and worked in the United Kingdom for 12 years. She held a position in the Public Affairs Division of the Commonwealth Secretariat, an association of 54 countries previously under British rule headed by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Gertrude earned her Masters in Arts from the University of Wales, UK (2010) and holds a degree in tourism.
